RV Mirror SC
The mirror vibrates; it's annoying. It's loose.
The puck on the windshield is tight but the mirror is sloppy. I have another mirror. How do I get the mirror off the windshield? Can I take it off without taking the puck off? Thanks. |

Here's what I did;
I was out autocrossing and just finished up my run, cam into the pit and after stopping decided to remove my helmet in the car... thunk... my rear veiw mirror is laying by my feet. Are you done laughing? Okay, try giving it a good wrap with a hammer maybe but DON"T HIT THE GLASS!!! I have never removed one on purpose. If you have a helmet try my first method. Maybe it's better to take someone else's advise ![]()

DO NOT HIT WITH HAMMER! If you look at the base, you will see a little slot cut into it. Use a small flat blade screwdriver, and depress the locking catch inside, then lift your mirror assembly up and off of the button.

I have the same shaky mirror problem. Is the only solution a new mirror or can the swivel be tightened in some way to firm up the action ?

That's a better question. Can it be fixed?

Mirror thoughts
Can't help you with recommendations for removing the glued mirror piece, but here's something to consider if you are replacing the mirror:
I may replace my mirror with one from another vehicle that has a night flip switch. I'm tired of driving at night with bright lights glaring in my eyes from every vehicle that's behind me (Lincoln Nav's are the worst). I sometimes tilt my mirror down to get the same effect as the tilt button on most RV mirrors, but what a pain. Give it a thought if you are replacing the whole assembly. I'm sure you can replace it with a better mirror acquired from a local auto salvage yard for next to nothing (or more if you break the windshield in the process of removing the old ![]() Good luck, let us know what you come up with. This probably offends any of the purists, but mine did the same thing- I pulled it off, replaced it with one from that local autoparts store that came with a mounting kit and the flip thing to drive at night. $10.
Next owner will get the old one with the rest of the stuff I replace. Assuming there is a next owner...;-)

Same here......bought one at Auto Zone for 12 bucks. In fact, it even used the existing mount (puck), popped the old one off, slid the new on, no more wobble.

BTW - I think different years have different ways of mounting (and disengaging the mount) on the mirrors. I know some have round bases and some rectangular. Not sure when it changed.

Well, I stuck the little screwdriver into the slot and everything popped off, even the puck.
...and every SC I've owned - '79, '80, '83 - have a day/night tab on the bottom. At this point, I may just pick up an Autozone mirror. |
