Flashing LED Pressure Switch & Warning Light
I'd like to convert the existing Alternator/Charge Warning light and Oil Pressure Warning light to ultra-bright flashing LEDs. I had fun with making a pretty cool TPS and brake light-indicator panel on the dash that makes throttle and brake use clear to the co-driver/instructor and on the in-car camera through a set of progressive green-yellow-red leds driven off the TPS and through a little IC (I forget the number now.)
Under race conditions and in the blazing sun I've noticed the Oil Pressure warning light and the Charge light are somewhat dim and don't really catch my attention. I'd like to set them up to flash when 12v is applied. Anyone know what components, besides the LEDs, I need? Also maybe possible to do the same with a temp switch? I already have the stock temp gauge and a 6-cylinder selectable CHT gauge but again, I need to remember to look at those to monitor them, I's like a big honkin' LED flashing at me if something is wrong... Thanks

Why not just buy one of the aftermarket flashing LED brake lights and wire it to the back of the tach where the pressure warning light wires enter.
BTW, I'm interested in your TPS light setup. I did aomething similar using magnetic reed switches mounted near the throttle pedal, wired to incandescent lamps on the dash for the in-car camera review of braking points and throttle info.

Hi Zoanas,
You replied to one of my messages on the TPS back when I was working on it. I don't remember what the peoblem was but I ended up getting it to work really well. Here's the link: LEDs for In-Car Throttle and Brake Video Capture All the lights are off at 0% throttle, then they light up one at a time each every 20% progressively from green to yellow to red. I just saw Jaycar does integrated flashing LEDs maybe I'll check with them this afternoon.

OK, back from Jaycar...we stumbled on something kind of cool. The flashing LEDs they had, even the "Superbright" ones were very dull. But if you wire a flashing and a regular unttra-bright LED in series, the Ultrabright also flashes "in sympathy." Add a 300mohm resistor and you're in businesses. I hope.
It will be a while until I'm able to test it (in the midst of a near-complete re-wire of the car) but it works on the bench. I'll just drill 2 holes for each of the Oil Pressure and Temp switch and Transmission Temp switch and mount the respective Red, Orange and Yellow pairs of LEDs for each on the dash, front and center.
