915 Output Shaft Seal In too Far?
I think I just wasted a new (pass. side) output shaft seal by over-exuberantly seating it all the way into the recess of the case until it bottomed out. Now the sealing lip looks too close to the bearing. Then I read this thread where the various insertion tools are mentioned: 915 output shaft seal
Am I right in assuming that the seal should not go all the way in? (The leaky one I took out was flush with the case lip but I'm not sure that was correct either) Thanks in advance if anyone can comfirm that I need to start over on this and whether the depth can be approximated. (I'm minus a lathe to make a tool) Thanks, Ron

Typically, there is flexibility in depth of such shaft seals. You don't necessarily want it riding on the old groove. That said, you may only move it 1/16" in or out, depending. Sounds like you went too far.
