Want a turbo motor...

After nixing the idea of buying a Turbo 993, I've decided to make my "faux" 993 go as fast as it looks.

So...can my current 3.0 motor be "transformed" into a turbo motor or would I be better off just finding one already built?

And...who can/should I send my motor (and money) to for this build?

a very tasty car, I'm anxious to see what the members have to say about a fast motor... I'm guessing you're a guy who likes everything just right, so you might be better buying a core and deciding with your builder exactly what you want. Then your car is not down and you can always put it back the way it was if it doesn't live up to your expectations.

I have a ton of other stuff to do while the motor is out, so down-time isn't an issue. Will my stock 3.0 suffice as a "core" motor? Not sure if the turbo's (930) use a different block...?

Do it yourself. 3.0 will work out just fine. Search in the turbo forums, use my name, tsuter, imchappy, mb911. Lots of guys have them.

Talk to Henry at Supertec - pull the engine - send to him with wads of cash - get it back all nice and shinny - put back in your car - Grin

I love that car!

My engine is actually a 3.3L 930. You have a couple of options, both good. Sell your 3.0L and purchase a good used 930 engine OR turbocharge your 3.0L SC engine. The money spent will pretty much be a wash unless the motor needs rebuilt.
Make friends with your local P-mechanic and he'll guide you.

I did it with some pics on my website. totally easy IMHO I would suggest useing a 930 cis set up as this simplify's things. also no internal mods needed if you keep boost at about 6 psi -9 psi.. above that you need to be real careful.

Send it to my buddy Tracy Grimm, he can build it like the one he built for himself.

Thanks all.

I have too many projects to build it myself. I'd rather just throw it in a box and mail it off, along with my left arm and one kidney.

So...to be certain: There is no mechanical difference (internally) between a 930 turbo motor and a regular 'ole 3.0SC motor?

Same case, different pistons and jugs. Same crankshaft (the 3.3 turbo uses the same crank as the 3.2) If you "go turbo" you will probably want to upgrade to a higher capacity oil pump (GT3, henry does a nice case modification) You probably want to go to a 930 CIS - although you can also do a 3.2 carrera intake and motronic.

Lots of options with a turbo engine and lots of opportunities to drain your bank account.

Tracy's engine is based on the 3.0 that came with it.

Supercharger means no exhaust work, simple belt drive, and a simple FMU and you could be done and into the tuning bay in just one weekend. Turbo is a mess (my opinion).

Turbo engine

I have a Turbo engine for sale. It's ready to be reassembled and would be perfect for your application as you'll know the exact condition of the engine when you install it into your car. It will also provide you with an opportunity to upgrade to any HP level before installing it into the car. Remember that you'll need the turbo oil tank, fuel accumulator and Bosch Turbo CD ignition box if you buy a core turbo engine - all of the above is included with my engine! Also included are the Euro turbo headers/exhaust and everything else you'll need to transplant this engine into your car.

I'll drop the price to $6,600.00 and include the MoTec & harness with the engine.

Here's the pelican link with photos: For Sale 3.0 Turbo engine

Hmm...very tempting. What is the (approximate) cost to have a shop assemble? I can pull/re-install the motor, but do not have time to undertake a build.

SC kit seems to me a waste. robs to much power for what it gives back. But I think that it is simplier..
