Rolex 24hr
I've got my hotel room, but no tickets to the race. I can't imagine the race sells out.... or am I wrong?
Just wondering if I should buy them now, or get them there. Todd

Why worry about it, just buy them now, and pick them up at the "will call" window. I think it is at turn 4 entrance.

You want a Paddock Pass. No one sits in the stands.
If you want, this is an oppertunity to be 'volunteer crew' for someone's GT3 Cup. Best, Grady

Still, it would be educational and a lot of fun to view the race from the inside out. |

Dave,
I don’t think any team shows up with enough paid employees. Most rely on some volunteers. Even if you just wipe bugs or get the rubber chards off the insides of the wheels, you get to be ‘part of the team’. Don’t be bashful. Simply walk up and ask who is the Crew Chief or Team Manager. Stress you are willing to show up the entire weekend and do whatever they need. Point out you are very familiar with Porsche. Reliably showing up is the key. Stress that when you don’t know you will ask. For the race, be prepared to stay up 38 hours. You don’t want to fall asleep on the Winner’s Podium. I was volunteer crew in ’81 (I think) for Bob Garretson’s 935K3 (Garretson, Redman, Rahal) and we won overall. I got to race the 935 the next year. You never can tell. Best, Grady

many years ago, on one of our trips there, me and my brother noticed the pit passes were orange with a black number on them. so we took these orange flyers that we had and folded them up and stuck them in those big ticket holders that everyone had. back then, before digital, we had cameras with these big telephoto lenses, so we let them hang over the "orange pit passes" and just walked in like we belonged. we rubbed elbows with the likes of al holbert and al junior, not to mention we got some great photos!
another time when we were there, we wanted showers sunday morning. the only shower i could find was, you guessed it, for the drivers. well, i did not know that until i was standing there drying off when brian redman steps out of the shower to dry off too! i dont usually tell people that i took a shower with brian redman....needless to say i got out rather quick. ahh, the good ol days when you are young and dumb!

I'll call tonight and get tickets then... see if I can add a paddock pass. I've got a friend going that is not as much into the whole thing as me, so that's why I have not bought tickets yet (he hasn't said which ones he actually wants to buy).
Thanks, Todd

See if you can get the Grassroots Motorsports package. Same $85 as regular tickets, but includes infield parking pass and Saturday night dinner. The link from GM's site directs you to Daytona Speedway ticketing.

Enjoy the sounds and smells of the race for those of us stuck in our frigid and boring corners of the country!

Grady, thanks for the great info. The prospect of being a volunteer bugwasher has renewed my hope of ever getting within 100 feet of a podium!
When the ALMS comes to High Plains Raceway, you and I can ask Penske if he needs crew. hell, maybe he'll put you in the car! |

Dave,
I 'volunteer crewed' for Roger at a race to Bridgehampton in the fall of 1959. It was his then new RSK. I think the point of High Plains Raceway is to NOT have any pro races. It is just for the clubs and members. Best, Grady

When you call for tickets, apparently you simply request the "GRM Experience".
