Need advice for installing new alternator on 78 911SC Please.

I just bought a new Valeo alternator for my 1978 911SC. It has an internal regulator. My question is do you leave the old external regulator unplugged and thats it? Just seems too easy. Do I need to clip and re-wire anything? Thank you for your help.

Cool Valeo IR Alternator........

That is the same setup that I have in my SC. Looking at the back (connector side) of the alternator, the red positive wires connect on the lower right (+ side), the brown ground wires connect on the lower left (- side) and the blue alternator light wire connects on the top terminal marked "61". There will be a heavy gauge brown ground wire that grounds to the block and a group of smaller brown ground wires coming out of the wiring harness. There should be one other wire that is not used. Cover the terminal of the "odd" wire with heat shrink tubing and tape back out of the way. The external regulator may be removed. Hope this helps.

Yes it helps Thank you Fred Cook. So, there is no need to hook up the wires of the external regulator to anything? As I am understanding it just remove the old external regulator and secure the multi pin plug.

So, anyone know the answer on the external voltage regulator? Do you leave the old external regulator unplugged when installing the upgraded new alternator with the internal regulator?

I took mine out and covered the end of the old plug with electrical tape.
