Which fuel pump?

1978 911SC w/o engine

Sourcing an engine will be sometime next summer. I want a 3.2 but depending on availability and $$ I may stick with the 3.0. In the meantime I'm prepping the car to be ready. Part of that is new fuel lines and pump, easier to do now with the tank removed.

Not sure which pump I should install

SC (CIS 3.0)
1978-79 pump 911 608 102 00
1979-83 pump 911 608 102 02

Carrera (3.2)
1984-86 pump 944 608 102 04

I believe the difference in the SC pumps is internal or external check valves. Which is preferable?

I've also heard that a SC pump will work in a 3.2 and that a 3.0 CIS system requires a higher flow rate than a 3.2. So cross the 3.2 pump off the list?

Is there a good one size fits all pump?

The correct pump is the 77/79 with the internal check valve
The 80/83 has an external check valve BUT the banjo fitting to the pump is a diffferent
Size. The Carrera pump doesn’t produce enough pressure to run the 3.0 but the 3.0 pump can run the 3.2.

Thanks Bruce,

I appreciate the info.

The car currently has a Bosch 0 580 464 024 pump. Best I can tell it should be in an Alfa Romeo...

As Bruce mentioned, the 80/83 pump is set up for 12mm banjo fitting. The older pump is set up for 10mm. Since you installing new fuel lines, the correct size banjo fitting can be specified. I did this on my car a few years ago. If you go the new fuel lines from "BoxsterGT", Len can make the fuel line with the correct banjo fitting.
