rear bumper rubber
I would like to replace the rubber strips on my rear bumper (thick rubber strips at the corners of the bumper) and I noticed that the left part costs three times as much as the right part. They appear to be identical. Anyone know why there is such a big cost difference? The car is an '88 Carrera.
Thanks, Bob |

Gee....that question sounds just like the one I posted a month ago...lol....there are no real differences although the parts are not interchangable...I was lucky enough to find a used set from a pelican member who sold them very reasonable...They are at home waiting for my arrival...I have a set that will need a little modification to make work (the mounting screw on the left inbord strip had corroded badly) otherwise the strips are virtually perfect...let me know if you want them...would be about the cost of the right one shipped if I remember correctly for both...but it may be a week or two before I am home....out of town on business...

Just take them off and use plugs for the holes.....oh, and you can remove those HUGE bumper pads too, plug the holes, for a much cleaner look and some good weight savings....

I'd like to know the answer to this question too!
I'll bet the answer is because the demand is higher for the left one. My left one looks fine from the outside but the mount bolt corroded and so it does not fit flush with the bumper (same problem as stormmaster). The corrosion probably happened only on this side because it sits right above the muffler and gets soaked in the corrosive exhaust gasses. My right one looks fine AND the mount bolt is okay.

The difference in prices between left side parts and right side parts is on many items. Check the prices for the Carrera style fog lights. Very few places have the same price for both left and right sides, usually the left side parts are at a premium cost. I guess that there is a larger profit margin to be made on the left side parts, possibly due to those parts get damaged more times than the right side parts. Just my $0.03

The left side has a tow hook hole. Apparently the extra 2 seconds to drill a hole during the manufacturing process is extremely detailed.
