Rotor question for brake experts
There was some discussion on this a while back but i didn't really get a conclusive answer from that, so i am bringing this up again hoping to get some indication as this will be bugging me until i do.....
I bought a set of front and rear drilled rotors (Zimmerman) and the drill pattern on both front and rear rotors are the same for both side's rotors. This means that one side's pattern will spiral out and the other side spiral in with rotation as can be seen below. Is this a problem for normal DD and track days or do I go with what the supplier said that its perfectly fine? Please let me know what your opinion is about this. ![]() ![]() Thanks Gert

I have seen some that are directional, about like the saw-blade or Hurricane type wheels are Left and Right sided. Sorry that this does not help much.

I can't imagine it could make a difference. thinking about it, the only difference is that on one side of the car the arc of each row of holes runs toward the inside of the rotor, on the other side the arc will run to the outside. if that could cause any real difference it's beyond me to see how. and we're talking holes here, not grooves. there's no tendency for a hole to push the pad in any direction on the face of the rotor. FWIW.

911, 964 use straight internal vanes where the drill pattern is irrelevant
930, 993 use curved internal vanes where the hole pattern is determined by the internal vane structure

We drill our own and set them up left and right and also stager the pattern so there are no thru holes.

I bought the same rotors for my SC and each rotor was marked Left and Right on the Box, and the hole pattern was side specific...... This was 2+ yrs ago though
Just my .02
