I wouldn't worry too much about the connector. Many believe that there is no problem pulling reference air from the engine compartment and I subscribe to this. However, you are definately wise to make sure the connection on the sensor side of the wire is not soldered or sealed so that air can enter the wire.

Oh Damn!

I though I was being a good DIYer by heat shrinking and effectively making it water proof the male bullet connector to the sensor side of the connection. Crap!

OK, need to expose.
