Thinking about 4K mile round trip in a month?

Thinking about taking my '88 Cab from Sacramento, Ca to Austin Tx round trip. Prior to buying my car in November the PO had just done a major service some 600 miles ago, valves, oil, gear-box oil, V-belt, plugs, etc... the car runs absolutely tops right now and I feel confident. The only thing telling me no is that I'm taking my wife and she is used to the sat-radio, general comfort, size of her Mercedes, the size of the cabby means we must pack really light, nearly half the fuel range of her car, and it's a 20 Y/O car with 62K on the clock. What do you guys think?

DO IT! I love seeing the country in my car. Be prepared tool kit, aaa, etc. Hopefully you won't have any issues but sometimes little problems make a trip more memorable.

pack light and get a map so that she will have something to do instead of wasting time looking for radio stations dont take the interstate. take the back roads so that you have the scenery to view. there are some incredible roads out in that country and there will be plenty of view stops to get out and stretch your legs.

watch out for snow. depending on your route you could still hit winter weather in AZ and NM in March.

see the interesting stuff and be prepared to spend longer in a space that strikes your fancy. whatever you do, DO NOT MISS stopping in Sedona, AZ....only 30 miles from flagstaff, but well worth the drive down the canyon....prepared to have your mind opened!!

Only 62K miles? Hell that car is barely broken in. Mine has 145,000 and I would not hesitate to drive it coast to coast.

Hey GURU, Love the Pacific Blue Metallic - real rare color. Don't sweat the distance - did about that much last year in the 930 and 1/2 of the distance was in 90+ degree heat. Just bring, oil and have the valves adjusted prior to heading out!

I have done several long trips in my 85 Carrera. Last summer I drove 5,000 miles to San Diego Parade then up to SF and back. In 2005 I drove just under 5,000 miles to Hershey PA. Back in 2000 I drove 7,000 miles and hit 14 national parks on the way to Porsche Parade. It was a two week trip with the wife. If you pack tight and do some laundry after a week it can all fit.

My 911 has 125,000 miles on it now and I plan to drive to Charleston NC this summer. I have never had a problem on the road. Get a GPS and hit the road.
