Some of you on this board may recall me posting a similar question before, but I need more info..
![]() I have a -72 911 that had a crappy engine when I bought it - which I sold, together with the transmission. I bought a -78 915-tranny, and now I need an engine! ![]() My two alternatives are either a 3-liter or a 3.2-liter engine. I'd rather go with the 3.2-liter engine, but the added complexity of engine brain, etc scares me a bit. ![]() Is there anyone out there who have actually done a 3.2 transplant into an older car, that can tell me **exactly** what is involved when installing this type of engine - what extra parts do I need, etc, etc. From my understanding, installing a 3-liter engine is fairly straightforward, but I need to fully understand the added complexity of stepping up to a 3.2 before I decide on what engine to get. Hope you guys can help out! ![]() ------------------ 1972 911S Targa ************************ My project! |

Not even ONE of you guys have done a new-engine-into-an-older-car transplant??
Come on ![]() Oh, and while I'm at it - I need to figure out what year my 915-tranny is, in order to buy the correct clutch-cable. It says "78" and "915.301.301.6R" and "45-1" on the housing - I sure as h*ll can't find that number in any of my reference books... Anyone???? ------------------ 1972 911S Targa ************************ My project! |

Bo:
I asked this same question last autumn. Do a search on my name and you will probably find the threads. You are right on the ease of conversion, 3.0 CIS is far simpler than 3.2 Motronic. CIS is just a fuel pump change and electrics. 3.2 is a whole lot more. Too bad you do not have your 2.4S engine as I have spent nearly $5K just getting those parts/machining together to make such engine. Good luck. Bill 72T Mag case is back, time to make a motor. |
