Toolkit

Does anyone know of a place you can purchase the "toolkit" that comes with a 911?

I purchase a 1988 coupe a couple of weeks ago and when I looked for the toolkit this weekend, low and behold, I couldn't find it.

So I guess I need to purchase one. I checked Ebay, nothing on there at this time.

Also, anyone have any idea what I can expect to pay for this little gem?

ebay will be your best bet for a deal. just be patient and watch.

One place or another something will pop up.

Cost will depend on quality of the kit and of course the competition, but it wont come cheap. Check with the previous owner, maybe he took it out to clean for the sell and can GIVE it to you.

They are quite difficult to find, esp in good condition. You can buy the tools from Porsche and various suppliers like Pelican, and your local hardware store, but the original pouches are difficult to come by. I looked for months until coming across one at a used parts supplier. Called Parts Heaven and 20th St repeatedly without success. But thats a start. The ones I saw on EBay always went for more $$ than I wanted to spend.
Just keep looking, you'll eventually get one.

In the mean time though, here are the contents:
Tow Hook (1), Open-end Wrenches (5)(8mm-19mm), Wheel Lug Wrench (1), Universal Pliers(1), V-Belt (1), Fuses (5), Hook Spanner (1), 3 Screwdrivers, Sunroof
Crank, Pouch.

Wasn't there a spark plug socket wrench in there too?

I've put together a tool kit that i think will work just fine the only thing i'm missing is the tow hook.
Can someone tell me what it looks like and how it works?
Where and how does it attach?

Andy, If you have a "big bumper" car (74-89) the tow hook looks like a big oval shaped metal eyelet with a 4-5" shank coming off if it which has a short 90 deg turn at the end. If you pry off the cap on the left rear of the bumper, the hook goes in here and engages (the 90 deg turn) into a slot. This is held in place by a tapered spring that is on the shaft of the tow hook. Hope this helps.

MarkY, did you check the smugglers box also ?

When I bought mine, the previous owner told, that the toolkit is missing. It was a good 2-3 weeks into my ownership when I finally got round checking the smugglers box; and guess what...

The toolkit complete with the vinyl gloves and everything. And as a bonus the original German-spec first-aid kit also!
I was over the moon.

The smuggler's box is in the floor of the front luggage compartment (toward the rear). Lift off the carpeting. It's in the center and houses the air conditioning evaporator & fan. Is secured by a latch.
If you find any pot in it, send half to me!
I didn't get a tow hook either (I'll look in the owner's manual tonight for info). Don't know anything about a "cap at the left rear of the bumper".

It´s in the front boot. Behind the petrol tank there´s a hinged lid which gives access to a box like area designed to fool customs officers...

Really, it gives access to steering components and at least some early models had their petrol heaters there. In RHD cars the lid is smaller because of the location of the brake master cylinder. I´ve never actually seen if the box itself is smaller too.

No, I did not check the smuggler's box. I didn't even know a smuggler's box existed.

I will check this "box" when I get home this evening. If its there, it would be too cool.

Thanks for the info. I've emailed the seller of the above toolkit and he said he thought it came out of a coupe. Can someone here tell from the picture if it has the sunroof crank? I don't know what one looks like.

I also checked my smuggler's box (had to remove an amp to do it) and no such luck.

Well I have an 82 911SC, and I have all those tools except:

he does not have the tow hook, so it must be a later car...1984+

I have the allen wrench and I have a longer one with a rubber thingy on the end for fishing out the battery clamp bolt...

I am missing one of the screwdrivers

the 2 socket extensions in the middle of the fan belt are not in my kit and I think they are not for my year...

But everything else is right...

Neither of these tool kits have a sun roof crank. The tool looks like a straight basr with a "u" bend in the middle.

Hello

Since 1985 the hook is a screw in type. Porsche sales all tools separatly but not the pocket.

The hook has a small rubber hole in the rubberprotector driver side. The screw in unit has a plug near the number plate driver side.

The emergency openers for the roofs come allways separate. Sunroof has other part then convertible. The factory marked the pokets with a color coded stripe so the workers didn´t mix it up. The old german maintaince list still says: Check all tools for existance and usabilty. replace worn items
