Mixing Motor/Transmission Mounts

Here's a silly question for you guys.
Would you mix different brands of motor mounts on your car?
I ordered four Meistersatz sport motor/tranny mounts from our host. Supposedly the Meistersatz mounts aren't being made any more because of the environmental issues with cad plating, so they sent me the last Meistersatz mount (Pelican still shows 100+ in stock though ) and three "German" brand mounts.
Should I just buck up and use them, or return them and get four of the same brand mounts?
Frankly, I'd rather have the Meistersatz because they're cad plated and the surface is nicely textured, whereas the German mounts are silver (zinc plated?) and have the worst surface prep I've ever seen on something made in Germany.

I don't know what the performance differnces might be between brands of "sport" 911 motor/transmission mounts. For that matter, I can't say that I noticed anything when I switched to "club sport" mounts in my SC from its original stock mounts. I have concluded that I am not a sensitive tester, able to detect subtle differences.

I do know that some folks have mixed solid with elastic mounts, and claimed it worked fine, gave them the balance they sought between vibration suppression and resistance to torque twisting, etc. From that limited experience I infer that mixing is not apt to be a problem in itself - it is not as if all four mounts absolutely have to match characteristics or some gigantic destructive interference wave will be induced or whatnot.

You should be fine with different mounts on the trans and engine. I'm not so sure about mixing side to side.

I asked Jerry Woods which mount should I change or if I should change both mounts (tranny & motor).
He said to change the motor mounts and just use OEM tranny mounts. He felt this was best as you won't feel as much NVH with OEM tranny mounts and the solid motor mounts will help eliminate the twisting action on the motor.

I took his advice and purchased the motor mounts from SmartRacing, but haven't installed them yet, so I cannot give much feedback from my experience.

Yes, mix them. If you install stiffer mounts on the tranny end, you will get more cabin noise.

I have solid mounts all around
doesn't vibrate much at all
smooth motor,
but you definitely hear the transmission more than with stock mounts
I like it, some folks don't

I put WEVO mounts on the tranny and Sport mounts on the motor.

Like Soup and Paul say, there is definately increased transmission noise, but at least I'm usually pretty sure where my next gear is...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
I guess I should return the one Meistersatz mount, as it was really the side-to-side issue I was worried about.

What Supes says. Although I still wonder how much louder it can be. Not any louder than straight-cut gears, right?

I've got solid mounts with some race-cut-gears and dog-box engagement. Talk about loud. When I go into a dog box gear it sounds like a hammer falling on the car.

I don't think it will really matter to have different mounts as long as they are the same part number, but if you're concerned, just get the one replaced. There is a chance that one of the mfg. didn't really pay attention to the specs for it, then you might have different behavior once-side to the next. Won't hurt anything, but could be annoying.

Hey Wayne, what's the deal? What is this, the secret PP motor mount formula?

How can this happen twice, separated by nearly a month? I got one cad mount w/o the part number molded in the rubber(presumably a leftover Meistersatz), and 3 silvery plated ones with the PN in the rubber.

I waited nearly 10 days for these to arrive from the Left Coast and if I need to exchange I'll be waiting longer for the return auth and shipping to/from/to me.

Granted, I can always hide the mixed ones on the tranny and nobody will ever know but me, but nobody ever answered the OP's question about mixing them. This is not a question of which mounts on each location. I am going to use 4 Cab/CS mounts, but the brands are mixed.

UPDATE: Acc. to PP sales, they still show several of each brand in stock. They are sending me 3 Meistersatz brand and I will be returning the 3 "German" brand mounts to them. Since it's 15 degrees and snowy/icy, I guess it's no biggie for me to wait for them.

Everyone makes mistakes, but PP backs it up with great customer service, which will keep me coming back!

OH THATS FRIGGIN' BOGUS!!!!

Now I'm pissed. Customer service has told me twice now that there weren't any more Cad plated meistersatz parts.
Sales has always been good to me. I guess I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Well, don't be too upset. After being promised 3 Meistersatz would be sent to me and waiting another 10 days... You guessed it, 3 more silver ones showed up yesterday.

I have now bought 7 motor mounts and only one of them is the gold Meistersatz. And, of course, I have already mounted it in anticipation of the other three arriving as promised.

Calling PP again to see if I can get Meistersatz, otherwise they'll be getting my one Meistersatz and 3 "German" silver ones back as well.

Since originality doesn't matter anymore I'm giving up my quest for decent looking, cad plated parts, and starting on my next project: Hot dip galvanizing my fuchs.

Seriously though, if you want my one Meistersatz mount to make a pair, I'll trade you for one of your silver mounts. PM me if you're interested.

Ok, just finished speaking with Jason @ PP and he is now saying that:

1. There are no cad-plated Meistersatz available in the warehouse, and there will no longer be any available due to environmental reasons stated above.

2. The new silver units are made by Meistersatz, also. I mentioned the stampings in the rubber piece that was not there on the cad units and also the apparent lower quality finish on the silver units. Maybe the prep for Cad plating was more stringent and they had to polish them before?

Graham, I will PM you about swapping, that's very nice of you to offer up. I will then send back the other 3 silver units to PP. At least I have my pick of the nicest of 6 for you! My other two will be under the car, so aesthetics are not as important anyway.
