Porsche Model Numbers
For some reason, I think I read Porsche has only 2 numbers left for model designation; internal and / or retail market, in the 900 series. Is that right? Is that why Porsche is going to names? I haven't heard of a 998 or 999. Are they the last ones left? Don't think I've heard of a 902, 905, 909, 913, 915, 919, 920, 921, 922, 923, etc. I've seen some in the 800s and obviously the 356s. Any thoughts?

Names are nothing new, Porsche called the 911 the "Carrera" since 1984. They have never used the internal designation (e.g. 993, 997) in their marketing literature.
Mod: I'll move this to the main tech board for more input.

The current iteration is the 997. What Porsche will do after 999, and why they skipped so many numbers to get here, is anyone's guess.
