Question rear view mirror removal

I recently purchased some sun visors for my 72 911T and the rear view mirror is in the way of lowering the sun visors. I think if I could move the mirror I could make them work. Any tips on removing the mirror from the windshield and reattaching it?

Depends if PO attached it with super glue or an adhesive patch. The adhesive can be softened with a hair drier and may be gently pulled off. You could also use piano wire. I could not get either method to work on a super glued on rvm so I kamikazed it off with a paint scraper fully expecting the windshield to break at any moment. It did not but it should have. Windshields break very easily from the inside so be very careful! Good luck.

Thanks guys, I will go with the heat. I have never tried the wire method but it sounds logical

I can't tell you how easy it is to break a windshield...did it just a week ago! Extremely modest push against a razor blade trying to get under an edge did it...a word to the wise. Jim

Yeah just broke a window myself. The rear view mirror was glued on there pretty good. I smashed the back with a hammer and removed it. I would leave it alone!

I guess I was lucky. I was cleaning the inside of my windshield and hit the rvm and knocked it off. Although, I did actually want it. Got some rear view mirror adhesive and put it back. I am glad I didn't break my windshield scraping off the old glue. I guess I will keep that horseshoe where it is.
