Driving my 911SC yesterday I saw at least five ricerockets want to be 911 large turbo tail cars, I have come to the conclusion that everybody wants their car to look like a 911 turbo. I am very thankful to be able to drive the REAL thing.

The guy says the replacement cost is over $43k. If he has that much in this car, he's nuts.

JackOlsen 04-12-2001 12:43 PM

That seems like the kind of idea that would be funny to do in Photoshop on the computer. But what's the point of doing it in real life? It's like Leland's rice rocket project, but done by somebody who didn't realize it's supposed to be funny.

No bids. No surprise.

Two comments:

a) Where does the NACA duct on the hood go?

b) I would part out the steering wheel on this.

Nickshu 04-12-2001 01:27 PM

I want that steering wheel too.

Nick.

I am totaly scared now...On my way home tonight, I saw this car (Atlanta northern suburbs)! It actualy wasn't that bad and it pulled into a very exclusive gated community.

The build quality looked to be high.

Consider that he has more $ into that car than most of us have into the real thing.

Clearly what turns his crank is not owning a Porsche but instead having a unique and attention getting car. And he has one. It's an interesting novelty item and it looks like it is well executed.

I wouldn't drive it, but I would stop to look at it in a parking lot. More power to him.

Just had to put Carrera decals on it, didn't he?

Doesn't he feel a little silly driving around a Beetle with a Porsche crest prominently displayed on the steering wheel? I mean, the P-car crest creates a fairly stark contrast between what the car is and what the owner desires it to be. I dunno, kind of like driving a Honda Civic and putting big rims and race decals all over it...

cmorelan 04-12-2001 05:50 PM

Actually I think it was exactly that contrast that he was after. He isn't pretending to be a 911.

He is making a statement about the duality of German auto engineering, Contrasting the stark practicality and sensibility of the bug with the high performance and precision of the 911.

Or..

Maybe he is just a goof.

My vote is for goober ... afterall, he is from peanut country! Funny that the ad writer says it is still under warranty! Most dealerships frown on breaking the seal on the DME box ... wonder what they have to say about a turbo hanging on the engine? Wonder why there aren't any engine compartment pics?

I happen to own a 1956 oval window bug with 17" 993 mags, and as far as I could remember, the cool thing to do in the past (and still is) is to put fuchs on a bug, even install 914 engines. After all, their are certain similarities in the mechanics of the two. The old beetle was always considered a little brother to the 911 (912?). I think what this guy tried to do is capture that same essence, and I like it.
