RoW Carrera date of manufacture question

I'm trying to figure out the date of manufacture on my car. This is for registration purposes due to the silly rules that apply to military type folks stationed here in Germany.

It's a German '84 model that was imported in mid-'84 to the states. There is nothing on the driver's door, and no obvious date on the VIN plate. There is a "Kunstharzlack" (Synthetic Varnish?) plate which says "Built in West Germany" followed by "826-9-3." I'm hoping that the 826 is the paint code, and the rest stands for Sept. '83.

Can anybody either confirm or clarify this?

My car, a 74, has a VIN tag on the passenger side of the front trunk. Not sure if the 84 is the same way. If you can post the VIN #, someone can help.

VIN is WP0ZZZ91ZES103145.

A guy (employee at a dealership) on a different forum ran it and the only date that came up was 1984-05-08, I assume when it was registered or imported into the US. Seems a little late in the year to be making an '84.

I guess I'll be taking a mini-road trip to the nearest (but not local) dealer sometime.

The year model production dates for your car would be from August 1983, to July 1984. So a car made in May 1984, would be a 1984yr model car.

The rest of the numbers on the paint plate refer to the type and manufacturer of the paint, not the date.

As for the date you came up with later, that sounds reasonable given the chassis number of your car. That's over 3/4ths of the way through the serial numbers for ROW coupes for that year.

Meh, you may be right but I think I'll try and sell the guy doing the registrations on my idea. Never know until you try, right?

The 10th digit in the VIN, is an "E" which indicates that it is a 1984 model.

You need to know the exact date? Those are silly rules!

3.2 cab is right with the 'E' denoting 1984.

My first 911 was a 1984 Euro Carrera that I bought in 1985. The VIN was - and this is from memory - WPOZZZ91ZES140133. I imported and modified it myself, so I had to write the VIN # many, many times, but I sometimes still scare myself with poop like that. In a couple of years when the serious alzheimers sets in, all I'll be good for is spouting off VIN #'s, WUR pressures and the like all learned in the early 80's
