Installing rear light unit wires - looking for a trick

I'm reinstalling one of my rear light units, after replacing the wire harness for the light unit with a new one from Porsche. The female plug that goes through the inner wheel house, into the engine bay, is stiff, stiff, stiff.

Has anyone got a trick for making this job easy? Many thanks.

The best I could ever do was clean it really well, and lube it up with a decent rubber treatment. Then seat the groove of the rubber plug into as much of the lip of the metal hole as possible & work the rest through carefully with a flat blade screwdriver.
Good luck.

Heat the rubber with a heat gun on low heat. Test first on some old rubber, so that it do not damage the rubber. The rubber will be a LOT SOFTER WHEN HEATED, BUT GETS STIFF AGAIN VERY QUICKLY WHEN IT GETS COLD AGAIN, SO YOU HAVE TO BE QUICK. i SEAT IT AT ONE EDGE AND PRESS THE REST OF THE EDGE IN WITH A SCREWDRIVER, OR OTHER TOOL. Sorry for the caps, did not see until now.
