275x40x18 on a 78 SC

Is it possible to fit 275 or a 10 inch section width tires on the rear of a 1978 SC? How will the older suspension handle the 18 inch rim size? I plan on running a 40 aspect ratio. The car has aprox 450hp and I need a little more rubber out back. Don't really want to hack fenders and install fiberglass flares.
I have rolled out the fenders an inch with a body roller. Looks like they just might fit Thank you for your replies!

i have 285/40 by 17s on 10 by 17 inch lindsey wheels on the rear of my 17 with rs flares. with proper spacing 275s should be ok. i have 930 rear brake calipers. i do not have any oil line interference on the passenger side as i have a sbc engine.

Hello 7310948,

I too have a small block chevy in a 78 SC. My motor is a 327. I had the 915 trans rebuilt with an updated bearing case How does your car handle with the tires your running on the back. Do you have enough rubber or could you use more. I want to keep the backend behind the front in corners. What are RS flares?
What size motor and trans are you running?

i run an all aluminum dart 434 sbc making almost 600 chp...with short bell housing 930 4 spd...yes i could use more rubber but prefer the narrower look! rs flares are essentially the same as sc flares. perhaps if you have more questions, we could move off the forum. my email is larry_ingram@bellsouth.net
