Hello 911-enthusiasts!
A friend wants to add a front-oil-cooler for racing on his ´72 911 - the series, when Porsche was mounting the oil-tank in front of the rear right wheel. Unfortunately, You seem to need some other parts than for the other 911-series. Is there any kit available, where the tubes and other parts are already designed for an easily mounting? Can You get those parts in Germany? Or will there be an other easy way to solve the problem? Any help will be appreciated Regards Tobias Kindermann |

The fender-mount oil coolers on the '72s were about the same as other years; maybe a slight difference in the length of the flex line hose to the cooler. This shouldn't prevent you from installing a front bumper oil cooler. All you'd need is the appropriate cooler (Earl's, B&B, AJ-USA, Mocal, etc.), some -12 or -16 AN hose and a couple of metric-to-AN adapters. The size of your friend's race bumper and underlying sheet metal modifications is the only limitation to how big a cooler you can fit.
Not certain if the '72 oil thermostats/parts are available/affordable. If this is the case, you may want to opt for the more common oiling system/thermostat setup with accompanying oil tank, hose and filter console upgrades. Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars |

JUNKYARD RESEARCH
Perhaps we are lucky here in the Middle East. A perusal of junkyards has unearthed some interesting oilcoolers installed on all kinds of cars. The Sangyong Musso (diesel at least) has a great oil cooler that would be perfect behind an RS spoiler. Fender mount stuff could be made from old MB 280 engine oil coolers. I even looked at a 1990 Saab Carlson that had an adaptable unit. All these units have large oil lines in and out. Diverdan |
