'69 911T - oil light on?

I've got a '69 911T and the oil light is glowing. The pressure gauge is showing 20-30 at idle and goes up to the top when the engine is revved up. It sounds and drives fine so I guess that there is a fault with the sendor or the wiring. What does everyone think? My 911 experience is still limited

So, question 1:

Is the gauge reading normal?

Question 2:

If it is, where should I be looking for the pressure sendor? I've found the temperature one at the rear right of the engine block next to the bottom of the fan, and I found a 2 contact sendor in the top of the block in front of the fan housing - what does that one do? Removing the wires doesn't seem to make any difference

The oil pressure switch is actually at the top-rear of the engine on your car. The switch you are looking at at the front (fan area) is the Temperature switch.

The sensor (oil pressure) is probably faulty, but indeed it may just be a wiring problem?

A ’69 911T doesn’t normally have both an oil light and a gauge. The gauge replaces the oil light when added with the “911S” instrument package.

However it is common for the alternator light to slightly glow if the alternator is failing to charge properly. Could it be it is the alternator light you are seeing glow?

Best,
Grady

Are you sure its not the alternator light? Put a manual gauge the engine through the sender port and see if it has solid oil pressure when the light comes on.

I'll get a photo of the gauge in question asap. It's definately not the alternator light. That goes out straight away as the engine starts and the battery is staying fully charged

Garage
sounds to me that it is actually the alternator light.

higher revs = more charge = the light dims

the oil light comes up before you start, and ca. 1 second after the engine has started, it goes out completely...no dimming.

Maybe the colors are reversed? In our 911T, the alternator light is green, and on the right side of the gauge...

Just a thought but my 70T did not have an oil light. The light at the top of the gauge, opposite the alt. light was actually the light for the handbrake. I thought my oil pressure light was on until I looked at the owners manual.

Problem solved! It is the handbrake light I feel like a bit of a chump now. I've only had the car in my possesion for about 24 hours - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

Hey, at least you didn't post "Why does my oil pressure light go off every time I put down my handbrake?". The little handbrake graphic really doesn't help either, it looks like it could be a dipstick. A simple "Handbremse" would clear it right up.

Welcome to the club! Happened to me too, exactly in that first 24 hours of ownership! So, do we get a pic of the car in question?

I'll try and get a photo over the next few days - I'm not getting as much free time as I'd like at the moment
