How do you mask of Fuchs when painting?
I am in the process of redoing my Fuchs. I have taken off all the paint and polished the lip and lightly sanded the pedals to get them ready for paint. My question is, what is the best method for masking off the lip and making it a perfect, straight lined circle?
Thanks. |

I've used blue painter's masking tape and electrical tape-both with sharp-lined results. Masking tape just takes longer to work around the curves.

Nevermind. I did a search and found the answer. I don't know why I asked first before searching.

If you're doing an all-black center, I had good results by "over-taping", completely cover your polished lips and tape just into the part that will be black. Then take an EXACTO-knife and cut along the edge of where the black will be. There's a little ridge there and it's pretty easy. Then remove the tape in the center and you have a really nice line.

don't worry about masking, just spray it and clean it up with solvent using your finger to keep a sharp edge. works great, no masking, and just use a can of flat black paint. it will last 5 years easy to re-due.

2nd electrical tape near the spokes, then use painters tape and newpaper to cover the tires. I did this about 5 years ago and they turned out great.

I've used automotive pinstripe tape for the exposed edge, with blue painters tape for the rest of the masking. Pinstripe tape is very flexible and leaves a clean edge. And being much narrower than electrical tape means it's easier to make the arc necessary to mask off the area. But electrical tape is less expensive.
