Exclamation retractable seatbelt help!

I was reassembling the car last night. The driver side seatbelt won't release! It's stuck in the lock up posistion. I can feed belt in but it won't release. Is there a release tab or anything? It is almost all wound up on the spool, since I laid it in the front seat it reeled itself in. What to do?

Try turning it right side up and it should release etc... give it a gentle shake.

Cheers Jakes

ps Nice progress on the car etc etc

I agree w/ Jake, keep it right side up and if it can work, it will. If you want to try and take it apart, be very careful. One side is the spring and one side is the locking mechanism. If I remember correctly, the skinny plastic side is the spring, do not open that side. I learned this the hard way...BOING!!! Are you headed to ODaniels Sat? If I get a rain out on my son's baseball game I'll be there. I look forward to seeing the car and all your hard work!

I have the same problem. the belt is wound up with about 24" left out. It is removed from the car. Any other suggestions other than shaking and pulling on it cause that aint working.
Thanks,
Joe

Nevermind. I think I got it.

If the belts are not installed, I suggest you bolt them on. These belts are made to release when installed at the at the proper angle. They can be opened if stuck by removing the side plastic cover. . If I remember correctly do not remove the cover on the flat side. That's where the spring is... Once inside you'll see how to release the belt. They do not have release tabs.. Hope this helps.

Bob's got it. If you don't want to install them in the car, place the belt against a wall right side up as if it was mounted in the car. Be gentle and pull straight up on the belt; is should come out...

Great timing.....I had the exact problem yesterday. Unfortunately before reading here, we popped off the plastic cover releasing the spring!

Will be ordering a replacement. Based on this post, this problem seems common.....what specifically did you do to "figure it out"?

Thanks!

What Bob S said. I just bolted it back in place and worked it back out.
