Mine looked that bad. Cut the nuts off and they separated easily. Course cutting the nuts off was a *****.

Burn baby, burn... You might try an air chisel. You're not going to reuse the hardware anyway so you might as well get the hardware off as easily as possible without damaging any of the goods.

Dremel with cutting disc will take about 5 minutes to take them all off.

Where's the optimism...WD-40 and a box end wrench...no problem. =)

(Secretly I agree with all the others)

It will come off one way or another.

Good luck, Cooper

Just soak for a few days with PB blaster ....

just kidding cut em off with a dremel - or better yet - take to a muffler shop - have em hike your car in the air - have a set of bolts you can stick on there for the ride home and have them cut em with a torch while you sip a fresca.

Those lower valve cover nuts (or am I disoriented?) don't look much better BTW ... I'd bet it's been a while since the last valve adjustment ...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, but I'm moving in baby steps on the maintenance. Shifter bushings a few days ago, probably original. Just changed the transmission and engine fluids. Brakes are next (see below) then a valve adjustment.

The PO apparently wasn't much of a "car guy."

Went to adjust the E-brake, which currently consists of a very weak brake and 1st gear, and the little adjuster you access through the hole wouldn't move. OK, so let's take the disk off and try some more persuasion...

Discovered the cause of the slight shudder in the brakes, driver's side caliper outboard seal cracked and piston barely moves. Plus the little screws that hold the rear disk on are ON there, gotta get it to a place with an impact wrench. Let's order some remanufactured calipers while we're at it, oh hell, let's just go for the whole shibang.

The up side is when I'm done with this thing, it'll be good to go for quite a long time.

Still love driving it though.
