Neat parts on eBay...

Check it out:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280206350497&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:PIC&ih=018

These are front chain covers from the Porsche airplane engine. I would bid on it, but then I'd have to ship it, and also the guy doesn't take PayPal, so it would have to be a wire transfer, which is expensive and a pain.

Wayne, if you're seriously interested, I can pick them up for you. I'll be in the States sometime in the next 6-8 weeks and could poss. take them in my luggage (unless it's right before X-mas, I'm usually pretty empty in that direction). I've got paypal as well.

Let me know.

Steve

BTW, in the German part of the post, he mentions that the distributor drive and bearings are the same as in the 959, not the entire housing

Interesting find. I'd heard that it was so expensive to keep the tooling and spare parts around for the few remaining Mooney/Porsches that Porsche was actually trying to buy them back to decommission them.

Those FAA regulations will get you every time. . .

I have never seen one up close, but I have been told that the aircraft 3.2 had gear drive camshaft mechanism. These look like there are/were gears in the cases, but the drive still looks like a chain was involved from the crank to each case??
Does anyone have more detailed pictures, or PET info on these engines? I would love to see how it was done.

Several years ago, there was actually a complete brand new Porsche aircraft engine on Ebay.
