Low Oil Pressure 78SC

Fellow PelicanHeads,

After searching the BBS, I have NOT found a thread about the down side of low oil pressure. I have been told that bearing wear causes low oil pressure. I have a race this weekend and would like for someone to explain the risk of low oil pressure due to bearing wear.

Could be a dislodged piston squirter if the oil pressure dropped suddenly.

Well, the oil suction tube is very loose. The only thing holding it in position is the screen.

How low is the oil pressure? Is it far below 10psi/1000rpm?

Do you have the cam housing oil feed line restrictors?

At the track last weekend, the oil pressure was normal during warm-up. Once on the track, the oil pressure was between 3 and 4 bar. Revving the engine, on the track, would not put the pressure at 4.4 bar like it normally does. Coming into the pits, it was 0.5 bar at idle and would only get to 3 bar at 6000 rpm.

Last weekend was for fun at the track. This weekend is a PCA club race and I'm worried that the race might grenade my engine.

maybe do some simple stuff 1 first ?? check your relief valves .??
