Very simple process, just buy the entire manual assy and bolt in. You will need doorpanels as well. I bought used for $50.00, doorpanels for $75.00 for my '75.

Pelican sells the manual window regulators. They (Porsche) redesigned the regulator assembly and it will require drilling some extra holes in the inner door panel to mount. It isn't a big deal and saves a good amount of weight. I went to the manual regulators in my IROC backdate. I suppose you could use used ones from earlier cars but they may also require some mods to a 77 door. Good Luck.

Bump to the top for anybody that has ever removed a power window motor and weighed it. I'd also like to know what you found.
Thanks, JR |

Hi
How much for all the wiring harness for the electric window? What year is the car? Thanks Miguel |

The problem is "I used bathroom scales" as Peterfrans posted on that thread. So we can assume that the elec. "winder mechanisms" incl. the motor, are heavier than the manual, but it is not clear by how much.
The reason is that a bathroom scale is highly inaccurate - and barely repeatable at wts. that small. Or maybe they have really high quality bathroom scales in the Netherlands... It would be great if someone weighed these things on a postal scale, or at UPS, Fedex, etc. The wiring harness is not going to be much. The entire wiring harness for a highly electrified car like the 928 was pretty hefty tho (35 lbs.) - but just for a window will be small. |

Odd. I distinctly remember reading that Porsche saved weight when it went to electric windows, when taking into account all the parts. As I recall, it specifically mentioned that the arms, gears and levers were much heavier in the manual one. I guess what I read was wrong, but I have no doubt that's what it said. I'm pretty sure it was in a Pano or Excellence article more than 10 years ago.

IIRC, I read that in Aichele's book.
I have found that many Excellence articles have errors in them... also it is not clear exactly what year mechanism was compardd with what other year... Perhaps it saved wt. when they went to the improved scissors type lift mechanism... At present, it is is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. OK, apologies to the late, great amateur impressionist landscape painter... |

The lifter rail at the base of the window will also need to be replaced if you go from the parallel regulator to the redesigned cross arm style.
