What ever you think that you will have in building a SIX, it will coust double:D
Don't even ask what is in mine:eek:
A hot type IV is a lot of fun, I've driven a few 180hp (and I own one, getting it freshened up) 914s they do bring a smile to your face:D

I would avoid the chevy thing though, old Vetts are cheap enough.

This has been debated to death on the 914 boards. Due to the added weight of the 911 motor, oil tank, front cooler, oil lines etc you really need to upgrade the brakes and no one puts a 2.0-6 in they go with a 3.0 or larger so they go with bigger tires, flares, etc, etc, etc.
All the "etc" costs money.

And the other factor is time. You could "plug and play" with a big T-4 over a weekend. It will take months to do a -6 conversion.

Okay,
so what would be the best plug and play motor to put in and what would be the estimated cost of doing that?
The car I am thinking of doing this to is a 914 with a 1.7 injected motor.
If I were looking for a motor that put out at least 160hp, would the 4 cylinder be a type 4 VW motor, or some other rebuilt version of a 914 motor?
Would $5k cover the bill to do a switch out for such a motor?
