Dizzy Gurus...Vac Advance Problem

82SC

As many of you know, Vacuum pods aren't available right now (maybe never). My question is:
What do we do if ours is junk? I decided to refurbish my dizzy per Gunters instructions & when I removed the pod discovered that the arm had rusted right off & pod was filled with rust. The plate the arm connects to was completely frozen to the other plate.
So it wasn't working anyway. Car seemed down on power somewhat but overall ran OK. I've been told that I can run without it but I assume it won't run very well. Also one person told me I'd have to lock the plate down somehow, then someone else said don't lock it down. Which is correct?
I would imagine this unit was used on other cars at some point. Who knows... maybe some Volvo or VW dealer has 6 of them sitting on a shelf somewhere but I've no idea how one would find out.
I'm stumped as to what to do next. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanx,

Steve

In the meantime, set your total advance to @ 36 or so at 6000, while you search the boneyards for a replacement. That usually ends up being a permanant repair anyway.

Thanx Rattlsnak. I've been searching for quite awhile now. Are you saying that by doing that the car will run like it should? What about locking down the plate? Is that neccesary?
