Cool Steering Wheel Replacement Advice?

I am thinking of replacing my steering wheel on my '76 911s (tan interior, white exterior). It currently has a momo prototipo that is worn. What wheel do you have/prefer/suggest? Can you post pictures? I am leaning towards an old style wood wheel (mahogany). Is there a later model wheel that is a easy drop in fit that improves the look? What cost should I expect?

Cool Steering Wheel

I put one of Wayne's 930 style steering wheels on my '80 SC coupe. I also used the spacer to get a better view of the gauges and some knuckle room between the wheel and the dash. Looks great, drives great, price is right! What more could you want?

Good Luck!

Think the old style wood look is too old for your car. More for a 356 etc. Maybe re-cover the prototipo?

I prefer the look of the factory 3 spoke wheel. I have the optional Sport version on my 74 (along with sport seats). It has a thicker grip than the standard version and is wrapped in leather. They are becoming very difficult to find. Mine is in need of a rewrap and a new center pad (this I have). I have a standard version available if you like this style. I personally think it is more suited to your year car than a wood wheel. But it's all about what you like. It's your car. Enjoy. poorsha@shaw.ca

I have a Momo "Racing Line", but I also very much like the Prototipo. I'd say have the Prototipo recovered in new leather.

Wood wheels look out of place in a newer 911 in my opinion.

Momo 07 or a Sparco Monza. Either can be had new for under $200 easily. I like both better than the Prototipo.

here's my steering wheel. I know it's a real nardi but I only think the model is a classico but I'm not sure. I absolutely love it. Very retro and it works well with my tan interior. I plan to "upgrade" to wooden sunvisors and a wooden shiftknob to complete the look.

I just can't get used to the center of the Porsche 3 spoke.

Moto-lita in UK makes a bunch of styles. It looks like high quality stuff. Either someone here or someone on the Rennlist has one.

Wooden Sunvisers? Never seen them. Anyone know where you can get them?

I replaced my near-new Momo Monte Carlo wheel recently with a stock 4-spoke. I found the Momo wheel's small diameter made the steering very heavy when parking, etc. And it blocked a large portion of the speedo. I'm pleased with the stock wheel. It provides more leverage and allows better view of the guages.

Burton73us...nice color!

I did not like the looks of the stock steering wheel on my '86 Euro version cab. I'm not sure of the Pelican price but I didn't want to toss $350-$450 for a 930S steering wheel (but they do look great) so I went with the Dino steering wheel in the atached pic I found it on eBay for $90 bucks.

Also, you might consider the three spoke Porsche stock steering wheel in the last attached picture that was on an '84 Carrera I just sold.

Not sure why Porsche went with the wider style steering wheel in the later Carrera's since they don't looka s good and they don't alow as clear a view of the dash guages.

Gosh but my interior needs a vacuuming! Didn't realize it could get that dirty sitting in the garage and covered all winter.

That would be me.
Service & quality is 100%. They advised me to get the wheel "dished", they were right.
Hand made to order.

Sorry but I don't think almost $500 dollars for a 930 wheel a "great" price no offense. Are they factory? Maybe that's why the price is so crazy but even if they are that's an insane amount of money for a neat steering wheel.........love to have one but. Am I alone in my thinking?

Exactly why I bought the Dino in the middle picture of my post above.

THey are spendy and ARE factory. Used to be cheaper.

Wood is beautiful. BUT it makes a nasty set of splinters for the surgeons to pull out of your chest.

Leather gives the best grip.

Search on steering wheels for hundreds of pics. One is right for you. Even if not affordable BY you, it will still be right for you.,
