Question Question about Fuel tank vent system fuel hose for '84 Carrera

I need to replace the fuel hoses that lead to and from the little white plastic vent/overflow tank (which also will be replaced, btw) in the trunk just upstream of the fuel tank but am having a heck of a time finding the right inside diameter hoses. A quick measurement on my part shows their inside diameters to be about 14mm and 9mm. I went to the local Pep boys and didn't find fuel hose big enough. They only had fuel hose up to 3/8".

Where can I find this stuff, guys?

Here's a picture of the vent/overflow tank and hoses:

Pelican typically sells the necessary hoses in bulk. So you'll have some leftover when you're done.

I too have problems getting fuel injection hose from my local franchise parts stores (Advance Auto, Murray's, AutoZone, PepBoyz,..... they all stink for this stuff). The hose they have is usually SAE 30R7 which is not rated high enough pressure-wise for fuel injection. I buy hose by the foot from McMaster Carr.

http://www.mcmaster.com/nav/enter.asp?pagenum=238

The stuff you need is "SAE-Rated Buna-N Fuel and Hydraulic Hose" in 30R2 or 30R3 rating. I love that McMaster. You can get just about anything there and it's good quality stuff.

Scott-

I might have some of at least the smaller hose in the garage. I accidentally bought some too short to be used on my car (it's the evap recirculation hose and I didn't realize how long it needed to be). I'll be able to look later tonight.

I just went through this same hunt.
Here is what I ended up getting. It wasn't cheap, but it does look factory.

www.summitracing.com

14mm hose - Use part # EAR-350310ERL
This is -10AN Earl's Performance Pro-Lite 350 hose. It is nylon braided fuel hose.
It costs about $30 for 3 feet. Very expensive, but looks factory.

9mm hose - Use part # EAR-350306ERL
This is -6AN Earl's Performance Pro-Lite 350 hose.
It costs about $26 for 3 feet.

If you live in the southeast you can order it on Monday and get the hose on Tuesday!

The charcoal and brake overflow lines are almost impossible to find in a braided nylon hose. You can find regular rubber fuel hose pretty easy though.

Yes I'll be around. I am going to get up early so I can get the 911 off of the jackstands. & just finished repacking and replacing the boots on my CVs, dumped mystery fluid out of the transaxle and replaced with swepco, and installed new sport trans mounts.

I have a meeting at 1 in AV but the schedule is pretty open other than that. I'll take some pics of the hose I have when I go down to the garage in the morning.

Scott-

Yeah let's set something up. I have some domestic duties to take care of before getting the car back on the road. Something just before noon would work for me. I'll give you a call when I get done down here in SC.

Here is the hose I have...

N-020-371-1-M21

14mm ID, 17mm OD, (quantity as needed, priced per meter)
Brand: Contitech [Photo] [view in parts diagrams]

I have about one meter but it looks like you only need a foot or so, I'll bring some cutters to put a nice end on it. This hose is used for the fuel filler sleeve overflow and mine disintegrated. I don't think it needs to be a full meter long but I also don't plan on removing my fender to replace the sleeve any time soon. If we have to cut it short to get you back on the road without getting high on fuel fumes that'll work too.

for some parts of the system you can use fuel vapor hose - fuel line hose is not needed (and apparently was not used by the factory)

just do NOT use regular PVC hose

Scott my meeting was moved to Bagels & Brew in MV if you want to stop by to pick up the hose or I can drop it off afterwards.
