A/C Evaporator and other mods

Today I ordered a performance aire underbelly condenser for the start of my 930 a/c mods. I am also planning on doing a Jim Sims pro cooler mod and custom hoses. I was considering upgrading the evaporator to an aftermarket unit at the same time too. Unsure if this provides a worthwhile upgrade though, I took my cover up to look at my stock one and saw some wierd white cable going to it, I don't think it is stock? Can someone confirm? Also what size hoses should be used for the system? 1/2"?

That's your thermostat sensor. Carefully remove and re-install if you decide to do the evap. Ken

As Ken says, thats the thermostat. Its not a wire, tho, but a sealed capillary tube containing gas which expands and contracts with the temp its exposed to and switches the compressor on/off. Do not bend back and forth more than necessary and don't fold it tightly. If it breaks, the thermostat is shot. (Should this happen, a local AC shop should have a suitable replacement for much less than a Porsche part, BTW)

Yup, as mentioned its the thermostat sensor, its hollow & filled with some sort of inert gas. Be very careful not to break or damage it. There's also a copper (or maybe its brass) sleeve that it goes into thats inserted between the fins of the evaporator. Be careful not to bend that as well.

An upgraded evaporator will be more efficient. But how much is hard to say, condenser upgrades definitely the biggest bang for the buck. At any rate you should at least pull it out and clean it. When I took my old one out it had a least 1/4" of lint built up on the bottom.
