I think I may have messed up... My 83 911 cabrio is the first car I have ever driven and used a bra. Mine is only used part of the time and I only use the front slip-on hood piece. Well, we recently went on vacation and I left the bra on while we were gone (just forgot at the last minute). So, the thing was on the car in the garage for most of the last 3 weeks. Today I drove it to work, nad at lunch time, I decided to remove it and I was not very happy when I did.
![]() I found under the bra, and only under where the bra was covering, small bubbles in the paint. Maybe a dozen. Most were pin head size, and a few (the largest) were the size of a pencil eraser. It's the original paint. The car is driven 3-4 times a week typically, so I have my share of paint chips on the front end, but these spots were not looking like chipped, or even previously chipped areas. Could this actually be rust bubbles, or could it be something else? Should I let it bake in the sun for a bit or is the damage done (I know, probably just avoiding the pain)? I am also posting this in paint and body section. Maybe it is time to plan a front end respray.... ![]()

A chemical reaction perhaps ?
Where do you keep your bra ? Isn'it possible that a cleaning product has falled on the bra before you installed it ? I don't think that's rust .....just my opinion. |

Trapped humidity. See if they subside.
May/may not be rust bubbles. Wait and see if they go away. |

Thanks guys. I tried to not overreact and do anything stupid. I did make sure the sun would hit the rest of the afternoon and maybe I will see something promising later in the day. I hope anyway...

Lot's of guy do a re-shoot of their front end..fenders-hood and front bumper/valance etc.. That is if the rest of the paint is in relatively good condition. I have the front of my SC peppered in chips b/c i drive the snot out of it and I bought it to far chipped to do the masking tape trick to protect the paint,,, needless to say next winter I'll be doing a complete repaint ![]()

Another negative result from using a "bra"
Anytime that someone has asked about one of these, I have always, said it was not a good idea. I have seen far too much damage from this type of product, that is supposedly there to protect the paint, not destroy it.

if you feel the need, due to a long trip with chances of rocks on road:
put on bra drive to where you need to be take off bra immediately. always make sure the bra is totally CLEAN on the backside and watch for flapping at speed. dirty bra plus flapping equals power sander! as a painter/bodyman I see much more damage caused by bras than is prevented. |

+100% with haycait911 and rnln. The damage caused from the use of these can happen very quickly. The only "good" bra, might have to be a 36DD.

Chips are repairable much easier than rust, ditch the bra.
You have moisture under there. It could have caused rust. You will know soon enough by what happens under there. If its rusty it will show itself eventually. For now parking the hood in the sun is your friend. Don't use any forced heat on it as you may burn the paint and have it shrink (cracking lines between the bubbles). I owned a car that had the exact same thing and it went away after I took off the previous owners bra. Try the clear stuff if it all goes away, that doesn't trap water like the leather 80's technology. |
