Garage door opener "install"

This may receive the award for the least technical post ever on the board.
Anyhow, I was viciously attacked a few days ago by my garage door opener during some spirited driving. Came out of nowhere and gave me a crushing blow to the temple. Were it not for the fact that it lacks arms, legs, a mouth, and a brain it could have killed me.

I did a little thinking today and decided that we could coexist if I could just give it a home where its' prey instinct would not be stimulated.
This is what I came up with-

I had to bend the clip with a pair of pliers to make it hold tightly. I then applied some adhesive felt to the back side of the remote so it will not rattle with bumps.

So far works fine with range similar to when it was clipped in its' predatory perch on the visor.

Easy to remove- just remove the ash tray and easy to slide out if necessary.

This is about as technical as I get. So many people have helped me on this board that I thought I would try to contribute in a small way.

Believe it or not, I really appreciate this! Mines stuck of the door panel and I never liked that. I did not want to use the sun visor, so this seems to be a good solution. Thanks

I've heard about people stealing garage door openers and getting your address from documents in the glove box- then you get home and it's too late. I think I'll try your idea with mine- always thought it looked tacky on the visor! FWIW, my Range Rover had a built-in system that would open the door from a greater distance than the standard openers- and had three channels. I thought that was a great idea- pity more manufacturers don't use it...

Cheers,

Paul.

The doors on my garage are both controlled by my key fob, plus additional lighting. This door opener key fob is smaller than most of the alarm remote fobs. One button open the front, the middle button turns on additional lighting, if desired, and the third button opens the door on the opposite end on the garage, that way I can drive through if I need to. The openers also turn their own lights on when activated. I use the key fob remote, so there is not an opener in the car, if I am not in the car.

Nice Idea! I painted my black and placed on my side pocket as not to be so obvious but under the ashtray or console is a great idea.

I had mine in the side pocket for a while as well. I always seemed to kick it when exiting the car.

They pretty much all do. Even saw one one a $12k Hyundai.

But it was pretty rare back in the mid 80's.

I like it! I keep mine clipped to my log book in the glove compartment, easy access and out-a-sight.

Looks good.

Did you try to remove the clip and put it INSIDE the ashtray- that is what we have ended up doing on all of our cars. You can also buy a smaller Genie keyfob type that will fit for sure inside the ashtray. I put double sided foam tape on the bottom of it and place it in the ashtray- no buzzing or vibrations, and no-one sees it either.

dorschman, I must say, that I really like your "clean" looking interior.A++++!!

When I built my shop, I installed 16'x8' doors on each in. This was done if I have to bring something in on my tow-dolly, trailer, etc., or if I just wanted to use the other door. The two openers came with a $hit-load of openers. After all was done, I had 4 of the larger 3 channel openers(not really large, only about 1"Wx2-1/2"Lx1/2"thick), 4 of the 2 channel openers, the same size as the other 3 channel openers, and 4 of the key fob, 3 channel openers. I am really glad I did come out with so many openers, that way I was able to hand out openers to all of the people that might need entry to my shop. After all was said and done, I still have 4 openers in my house, that are just spares. I use the key fob openers on the different sets of keys for the cars and trucks that I drive.
