Using A fuch as a Space Saver Spare Rim on an SC

I have seen it a few times in the magazines etc. where you put your space saver spare tire on a fuch wheel.

Has anyone done this here and what Fuch should I be looking for? Also would be interested if anyone has a spare space saver tire that I could use for this project.

I have heard they are a ***** to get off and back on the rim. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks In Advance.

JW

6" as I recall and I think most space savers are 16's. Many have done this before and I guess some tire installers have a difficult time getting the tire on the wheel. I don't think it's too big a task for someone who knows what they are doing.

Did it to my '84. However it's 15X6 not 16. Here's a pic. The guy who swapped the tire from my steel wheel to the Fuchs said it took a little more time but wasn't a problem...

There are two sizes of space saver tires.
One size is a 165 x15 and the other is 165 x16
Both fit in front of the gas tank.

Are new space saver tires available? I've done a google search and looked on some of the larger online tire sellers, but no luck.

Mine is a 175/15 and the rim says 15x5.5 so a 15x6 will work or do I need to go with a 5.5x15?
Anyone have a fuch lying around?

Thanks
Jon W.

It's a Fuchs (means fox in German), not a Fuch, even though you're talking about just one wheel. Strictly speaking, one wheel is a Fuchs and all four are Fuchses.

I have a space-saver spare on a steel wheel, if you want to buy it, from a 1983 SC, assumedly never used. At least I never have, though I inflated and deflated it once... Shipping needs to be from New York.

So, how do you pronounce that? Similar to "fuschias?"

BTW, how do you pronounce "assumedly?" No help from Merriam-Webster, I'm afraid.

Milt, you had me goin', since the word indeed isn't in Merriam-Webster though I've been using it for 60-plus years. but it turns out to be in a lot of other dictionaries, if you Google it. Uh-soom-id-lee. By assumption.

jwernquist, my space-saver isn't going anywhere, so let me know whenever it's convenient.

I corrected my past post, the correct tire sizes are:
165 x 15 and 165 x 16.
Bf Goodrich and Vredestein made those.
The total diameter of both the 15 and 16 tires deflated is 20.250 inches, any will fit in front of the gas tank.
Some pictures of 15 and 16 tires
One of the 15 is a Bf Goodrich Space Saver and the other is a Vredestein Space Master, the 16 is a Vredestein Space Master.
One of the pictures is to compare inside and outside diameters, the 16 is on the front. Also, one is to compare how wide these are, the 16 is on the left.

Bf Goodrich 15

Vredestein 16

Vredestein 15

16 in front 15 in the back

16 on the left 15 on the right.

You'd be in a lot of trouble in Germany and Scandinavia, forget Thailand, where fahrt and its derivations are very common words.

Mine is a 5.5 inch. The wheel had to have beads welded around the inner rim to keep the tyre in place.
