I've read in past posts where some of you have lowered your seat height by removing the adjustable seat rail and affixing the the seat directly to the frame on the floor of the the cab. Does anyone have a procedure for doing that? Does it require a special bracket or can you just connect seat frame to floor frame?
I don't mind losing the adjustability as I am the only one who drives the car. I am doing this to keep from hitting my head on the roof (sunroof coupe) with a helmet on and I need about 1/2-3/4 of an inch. I have already shaved my seat cushion (Recaro sport seats) by 1/2 inch. Thanks in advance, Mike 1982 911SC |

You need to take a couple rides in an ACES II ejection seat to get the ole' spine scrunched a bit. That ought to do the trick... actually, just take a ride in an F-16 a couple of times...

Unless you are going to reinforce you flooring, I would not recommend removing you seat mounts. They are welded to the floor and side of the cars by the door sills and the center tunnel. Bolting solely into the metal flooring with the existing bolts would not be enough to hold your seat in an accident. The bolts would rip easily through the floor.

Mike,
I am in the same predicament! I’ve done all the easy stuff to get some head room. There was a guy who posted a while ago about swapping seat rails for a later type (post electric seats I think) I wish he would post again. I searched the archives and couldn’t find it. If you come up with anything, please let me know. Regards -Andy absnow@cruzio.com |

I had same problem. 6'5" tall in a 85 sun roof coupe leaves no room for helmet. Cut out seat mounts and welded in steele rectangle stock perpindicular to original rail mounts. I am about 3/4" off floor. Had to move computer to back seat. Now I fit with helmet and roof closed. Electric seat still works so seat height is ajustable as is forward and back travel. Also fit much better without helmet.
