I feel like I should pass on some information. There is a set of wheels on ebay that the guy listed as 8 and 9 x 16" Fuchs. They look pretty ratty, but that is cosmetic, and that is not the problem. I did not think the one photo he on the listing looked like an 8 or a 9, so I emailed him and asked him to send me pics of the part numbers. He sent me the first two and they were both 7's. I emailed him back adn told him this and he said the other ones were 8's. So I asked for pics again. He finally sent them a few minutes ago, and they are 6's. I will post the pics he sent me... As much as I would like a great deal on 8's and 9's, I assure you I am not trying to steer any other potential bidders of the path here. So, I guess I will end with caveat emptor!
The listing is: here are the pics he sent me today... ![]() ![]()

I emailed him back to warn him he did not have the correct info on his listing, and that he might be due for a lot of grief soon when someone gets their "8 and 9's", but not really. So I guess it is up to him now.

I hpoe this does not bother anyone, but this guy got my dandruff up a bit, and I am nearly bald for crying out loud! Read and enjoy (I deleted his email address from the text below, but otherwise this is how it played out tonight):
OK, SINCE YOU WANT TO BE THIS WAY ABOUT IT… SELLING “AS IS” IS A LOT DIFFERENT THAN ADVERTISING AN ITEM AS SOMETHING IT IS NOT!!! YOU LISTED THESE AS 8 AND 9 BY 16” FUCHS. I KNEW THE PICTURE YOU HAD WAS NEITHER, THAT IS WHY I ASKED IN THE FIRST PLACE FOR PICS. EVEN WHEN IT WAS CLEAR AT LEAST 2 OF YOUR WHEELS WERE IN FACT 7X16’S, I GAVE YOU THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT AS SOMETIMES PEOPLE NOT THAT FAMILIAR MIGHT MAKE A MISTAKE, AND THOUGHT WELL MAYBE HIS OTHER 2 ARE 8’S OR 9’S. IN FACT, YOU EVEN REPLIED TO ME A COUPLE OF TIMES SAYING THE OTHER 2 WERE 8’S. THEN I TOLD YOU WHAT YOU HAD AFTER YOU FINALLY SENT ME THE OTHER PICTURE. DUDE, I WAS ONLY TRYING TO HELP YOU OUT A LITTLE. ONCE THE PERSON THAT WON THESE GETS THEM IN THE MAIL AND SEES THAT THEY ARE CLEARLY NOT WHAT YOU LISTED THEM AS, THEY ARE PROBABLY GOING TO BE ON YOU LIKE STINK ON POOP. AGAIN, I WAS ONLY TRYING TO HELP YOU. AND AS I SAID IN MY LAST EMAIL, IT IS YOUR DEAL, SO WHAT YOU WANT, WHICH YOU CLEARLY DID. SO, EV’S MATE. IT’S ON YOUR CONSCIOUS, NOT MINE. TOODLES AND GOOD LUCK WITH IT! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Sent: 04/01/2008 9:41 PM To: Shane Van Wey Subject: RE: You've received a question about your eBay item, porsche rims 16" fuches THANK YOU FOR YOUR INPUT. I AM SELLING AS IS AND HAVE BEEN CLEAR ABOUT THAT. -- CERTIFIED ANNUITY ADVISOR -------------- Original message -------------- From: "Shane Van Wey" OK, I hope you will take this the right way. I really am trying to save you a LOT of grief. That last photo you sent looks like 911.361.020.43 to me. If I am seeing that clearly, and you sell these to someone who knows anything about 911’s and Fuchs, and they think they are getting 8 and 9 x 16 Fuchs, they will more than likely be a little miffed when a set of 6 and 7 x 16’s show up. Anyway, do what you want with it, it’s your deal, but good luck. Just trying to save you som grief later. Ha, As-is covers the implied warranty (That these will function as wheels. which I suppose they may not judging by the reply you received) but you can't disclaim misrepresentation. It might make the buyer's life easier if they knew the truth sooner than later; I wouldn't send them the transcript but you could inform them that the part number on the wheels decodes to a different size.

Yeah, I don't know about contacting the buyer... They got a not great deal on 6/7's based on the pics. I think it closed at over $600. I hope they looked into it like I did and know what they have on the way.
Maybe I should just walked away, but the guy really rubbed me the wrong way the more he replied to me.

this is rediculous. AS IS doesn't mean selling a toyota and say it's a mercedes. I would do what Jeff said, notice the buyer to help preventing him from getting ripped off.

Shane, YOU did the right thing and spent your time and effort and tried to help this seller out. I would not spend the time trying to contact the buyer. He/she needed to do their homework and buy with some idea of what the product really is. I sell and buy on eBay all the time, but I do my homework...it's my money after all. Good job and I hope the seller gets what he deserves from the buyer somehow!

Gentlemen (and Ladies) of Pelicandom:
It never ceases to amaze me how great this community is. Yes I am the adventurer who won this ill fated Ebay listing. In my thought process, even if I received a set of 6s and 8s for that price, I was ahead of the game. Besides AMEX is an Ebay addicts best friend. But alas, by bubble was gladly burst by friends such as those who took their time to send me a warning: pete-vb and alohaboy. And mostly to Shane, whose beagle nose kept him on the trail. But you know, when one has been doing this as long as I have, Something smelled fishy. Well here is th kicker. The scum advertised he took Paypal and now wants his money cashiers or certified funds. HA! One can safely say, that ain't gonna happen.. Thanks Again Guys. Kindest regards John Kelly

Shane and John-
Wild story and unfortunately becoming more common on ebay these days. Have either or both of you considered lodging a complaint with ebay? Seller misrepresented in several ways- not the product he advertised, and wouldn't take payment method he advertised. This is misleading at best, downright fraud at the worst.

Wow! John, I am glad you have an out on this and you caught wind of it. I was thinking hard this morning on my way into work about the whole thing again, and that I should probably go ahead and at least inform the winner to make sure and check things out and that the numbers did not match up. Then I came into a hornets nest as soon as I got here today and have nto had time to spit. Anyway, I am truly glad it WAS someone here and you were able to turn it around on the guy, by his own foolishness I might add. He is a brainy one isn't he!? Sorry I did not try to contact you sooner, but again, glad it seems to be working out - aside of course from getting a great deal on some wheels!
As far as what 175K911 said, I think the report should probably be instigated by John, and I am certainly willing to add what I have from the guy as well. Take care, and let me know if I can help you if you decide to pursue it further. You can email me direct at the address in my sig. Shane

John,
You do need to file a complaint with eBay as this guy needs to take his pony show somewhere else. Thank goodness you were aware of the product and are eBay saavy! The problem is that this guy can leave you a poor feedback rating when you refuse to pay and HE is the problem, not you. Get a complaint going with eBay ASAP and don't let them allow this guy to leave you a bad rating. Jerry

The tipoff should've been "Certified Annuity Advisor".
Talk about ripoff artists.... Glad he didn't get his $$ (at least, not from a Pelican!)

I am going to make one more post on this. I am not saying the guy is one thing or another, and will let you make your own judgement call. Here is the dialogue from today (start from the bottom):
From the certified annuity investor: now that was a very very nice email and I truley appreciate your knowledge and honesty. To tell you the truth they sat in my garage for about 18 years and my wife was on me to make room so I thought I would try the ebay thing call it beginners stupidity but I am not a scammer I just wanted to get rid of these rims.
