Hey, I'm here, just been really busy. And the server's been really slow.
Bev is improving by measures every day. She's now off the ventilator (thank god!) and just has a trach tube in her throat at this point. Many of her bandaging and casts have been removed, and she just has a couple of braces now - one for the left arm, one for the right ankle. Wounds and incisions are healing up nicely, and they've taken good enough care of her hair that she hasn't gotten bed-dreads yet. Whew. She's awake a lot, and watches WAY too much Discovery channel. She's not 100% cogent though - she'll look at you and focus on your face, and sometimes she'll follow your commands, like squeeze my hand or blink twice. One *really* cool thing - I was on my way out of the hospital last night and I was saying goodnight to her. She looked over at me and said something! Of course, she just moved her mouth, but it was unmistakeably her forming words without sound (because of the tube). I'm going to go visit her this evening again and see how she's doing with that. So it's going to be a long, slow road to recovery - but things are looking really positive. Keep thinking about her. 5Axis, she got your card - THANKS! I'm a doc, and we have about 10-12 ICU patients, but every time I read your messages about the two of you, you somehow manage to bring me tears with your display of inner strength. You two must be doing something really right. Keep up all the good things you serve us every time. GeorgeK |

 Thanks George. Honestly, it's the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with - after two dead parents and a couple of failed relationships, I thought I'd seen it all. But this woman deserves it.
