OK, this is what happen. I just got done rebuilding my complete brake system on my 1971 911E. It included new rotors and pads along with rebuilding the front "S" calipers and the rears. After I got it all together and bleed the brakes I noticed that the brakes become soft after sitting for a short time. I check everything again and came to the conclusion the master cyclinder was bad. So, this weekend I replaced the master cyclinder. I never bench bleed the master cylinder but after a long while messing with the system i was able to get the brakes bleed. Or at least I thought I had gotten all the air out. Today I went out for a ride and after about 5 miles all the brakes seized up. the car left me on the side of the road and I had to be towed home but not before we cracked the bleeder value and got the car to roll again.
What has caused this to happen? Could it be that I didn't get all the air out? should I go back and rebleed the system. PLEASE ME HELP! ------------------ Randy 71 911E |

RJM3,
All the brake lines are either steal or steal braided. If that is what you mean by flexible. Also, It wasn't one caliper that seized up it was all four. So, if any can help Please reply. ------------------ Randy 71 911E |

the pushrod from the brake pedal to the m.cyl. must release all the way and have minor freeplay, or the fluid will not bleed back to the reservoir. shorten pushrod if necessary. or maybe the pedal bushings are binding.

John is right on! There isn't enough play between the push rod from your brake pedal & the piston that actuates your master cylinder. There has to be something like 1 or 3 mm of play (can't remember exactly how much). It's in most of the manuals, I think. If there isn't, your brakes will lock up after a short while - exactly like they did. It's a minor adjustment.

Thanks Guys!
As I recall I remember seeing the 1mm play in the manual. Now that I think about it I DIDN'T set it correctly. I'll work on it tonight and post something in the next several days. Again thanks! ------------------ Randy 71 911E |
