There are roads that seem to be designed for the 911. Living in the flatlands isn't so bad, you have to drive for some fresh air though. Highway 178 up the Kern River Canyon is a road that will make your day. CalTrans is spending millions improving the the roads for P-Cars owners. Watch out for the CHP when you hit the 2lane. Where do you like to cut loose now and then. (don't tell me the track)

Glenwood Canyon before they started to build I 70!
The blue lane before they build I 70 West from Richfield to the I 15! That was 15 - 20 Years ago. I - 15 through the Virgin River Gorge. It WAS no very patroled 20 years back due to being so far from the rest of Arizona! St. Bernard pass between Switzerland and Italy! Diverdan |

Pacific Coast Hwy 1, south from Monterey
Everyone should do this at least once in an open air 911 before they die ------------------ '86 Cab, '77 Targa, Family Truckster [This message has been edited by Clark Griswald (edited 05-10-2001).] |

The Bay Area has too many great drives to count. My personal favorite is a route I do that goes through the heavily-wooded Presidio, down Great Highway on Ocean Beach, ending up at the Duck Pond in Golden Gate Park!
Not a high-speed course, but twisty and scenic. ------------------ 1971 911E with Webers |

I don't know if I would reply to this topic. The enemy is watching.
Hell, the enemy might just post this question to bait us, you never know. |

I would have to agree with Isolon on this and add any stretch of Highway 1 between Sausolito and Bodega Bay. I do not do this as frequently as I use to. On a more regular basis, I usually take the scenic route over the mountains between Napa and Fairfield every Friday (to avoid traffic). One day, I hope to do any of these in my little P-Car.

I usally take off out of where I live (Red Bluff, Ca) and either drive Hwy 36East up tp Mt. Lassen, or Hwy36 west towards the coast. Both have lots of high speed, and low speed twisties. You just have to keep more of an eye out on 36 east, do to CHP planes, and more patrol.

Unfortunately here in the Dallas area there are really no fun roads. Pretty much grid no matter where you go. Austin has some good ones I hear, but three hours is a little far for a joyride. I guess I will just have to go to a few autocrosses/time trials. |

We don't have many straight roads here in Western Washington, so all of them are good for my car. They are all scenic too.
Obviously, Hwy 101 is excellent. I also had an absolute BLAST going to Wenatchee and back recently, and found Blewitt Pass to be tailor made for my car. Hillclimb events must be a HOOT! ------------------ '83 SC |

California Hwy #96 (Klamath River Hwy).
Beautiful scenery, near-infinite assortment of curves. Expect to spend many hours behind the wheel (or handlebars) 'til you burst with adrenalin overload. Check the map and drive it soon. You can thank me later! ------------------ Doug '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA members.home.net/zielke/911SC.htm |

Now here's one from the east coast. Route 100n from Killington (VT) to Waterbury (VT) It's about 45 miles of twisty roads; full of rock walls on both sides, the granville gulch, and very little law enforcement.

There is a place here in Tennessee called Deals Gap. I believe its something like 322 turns in 11 miles. Watch out for the motorcycles though.

Running the Dragon. Deals Gap has a cult following. The Miata club uses it and have a lot of info on their web site.
