Replace fuel filter now or after a tank of gas?
My car sat for 4.5 years. I drained the fuel tank, and I have a new filter.
Question Should I replace the fuel filter FIRST, or should I run a tank of new fuel through it then replace the filter. I KNOW that I should have ordered 2 filters and did both (that would have been the smart thing to do) but I only ordered one filter. Anyways my thought process is that if I run a tank of fresh gas through the old filter, it will catch the stuff that was left in the lines, then I have a new filter for the next tank? Thoughts? Shawn

I would drain it for safe measure. I recently changed mine and wished I completely drained mine after seeing all the gunk come out of it.
My 2 Cents

The tank has been drained, but there is still fuel in the lines. I am sure there will lots of gunk in there too.
How would I drain the lines? Maybe run the pump with the fuel line disconnected and run it into a container?
