Angry transmission WILL NOT re-attach to engine?

HELP

I can't get the transmission and engine together. The transmission slides on real easy to about 1-2"s from mating together and then will not go any MORE.

Is there something I am missing? I have tried to ensure the shift fork is seating right on the TO bearing and I am pretty sure that isn't it.

Whats the trick to this?

Anyone done this?

Shawn

My guess would be that your clutch is not properly aligned. What kind of an alignment tool did you use? The 911 seems very sensitive to clutch alignment, if you did not use a tool esp. designed for the 911 clutch, you probably don't have it aligned right.

Don't know what year your car is. If it's a '70 I'm guessing it is one of two things. One, you're getting hung up on the pilot tube that the thrust bearing slides on or two, you're not getting the clutch fork past the thrust bearing.

You don't need a factory tool, just one designed for the 911, like all of the Porsche parts houses sell. Take a look at any of their catalogs, and you'll see that they usually sell around 5-6 different kinds for different types of 911s, they look similar, but are not exactly the same, and a little bit of difference can make if difficult to mate the engine and trans.

Usually less than $10 for the correct tool!

Thanks Allen it is actually a 77 with that great 2.7

What do you suggest? I don't want to be wiggling the tranny around, would HATE to break anything.

I looked at it again, it feels like it is catching on the passenger side????

This sucks, but I have all summer

Got it, in case anyone is wondering you CAN eyeball it, its a pain, but it can be done.

Or maybe I should wait until it is running before I get to cocky.
