All sorts of 901 questions
If your car is rolling backwards slowly and you engage reverse do you feel and hear the gears mesh?
If my transmission has a whine in 5th at higher RPM's usually, and sometimes a whine in 4th, what does that mean? I want to install a Z for my 5th because my X is doing way high of an RPM on the highway, will I feel a difference? I usually cruise at 65 and don't want to do 4,000 or so RPM anymore. Do I have to replace the synchro too if it shifts into 5th just fine? Will a new fifth gear maybe fix my whine? |

A whine is most- time bearings needle-cage- or main input - outputbearing, and for gearing what's your rpm at 60 mph and tire size - for your gear ratio you want?

I just hope I see what bearing is bad when I have it apart.

Fly it into Houston on the 26th of this month for Redbeard's 901 transmission clinic. Several of us are meeting to have him help us tear our boxes down and rebuild them. See the pinned thread at the top of the page if you're interested.
