Pertronix Ignitor in a '73 911E
i am about to install a pertronix ignitor in my '73 911E. the instructions for the ignitor state that the product works with 6 cylinder ignition coils with a minimum of 1.5 ohms resistance.
I just checked my stock Bosch coil and it measures about .9 ohms (measured across the positive & negative terminals), which is shy of the requirement. my distributor does NOT have a ballast resistor. has anyone else successfully installed pertronix with a purely stock bosch ingition in an early '70's ballast-free ignition? i am just wondering if I will run into problems or whether my coil is close enough to work. thanks !

I did on my '73 T CIS with no problems. I did not test the coil.

I had one on my 73T CIS engine. Instructions are not accurate so I called Petronix and they told me how to wire it up.. It worked great.
No longer have that engine, replaced it with a 1987 3.2. |

Oh, showing my ignorance here, isn't the coil low because of the CD, and if so, does that satisfy what the Pertronix is looking for?

I use a jacobs energy coil with mine. 380672T. FWIW. the site lists the resistance at .6 ohms. never had a problem. easily 10k + miles.

My buddy wired mine years ago, so I can't help there. I have an MSD 6AL ignition with an MSD Coil with my Pertronix setup.

Larry: thanks for the tip to call Pertronix. it turns out that the wiring instructions included in the kit ARE incorrect for an early 911E. here is what the Pertronix tech support line told me to do:
1). the black wire should be terminated at the same location as the black wire from the existing points. 2). the red wire needs to be connected to a 12 volt ignition source at the fuse pane near the rear quarter panel of the car.
