YES! My top end needs a rebuild! JWW to the rescue.
It might seem strange that I am celebrating this but I bought the roach at 85k expecting a top end around 100-125k and I am very happy that our own John Walker will be doing the work.
I went to visit John this afternoon (an hour late, sorry John got tied up at the office  ) to check on an oil leak and to confirm that I do need a rebuild. He ran a leak down and compression with some rather dismal results on a couple of cyclinders. We talked cost, time, mods and off we go  John is gracious to let me pop in from time to time to take some pics of the rebuild in process and post them here. Engine comes off tomorrow... Looked at the photos. Beautiful car with nice mods.
Just curious. The 'ad' said it burned no oil between changes. At what mileage did the top end problems start? Looking forward to the pics.

I've been waiting...somewhat impatiently...for something major for John to do for some time now.
I guess the shocks will have to do this winter...

The engine was probably not consuming oil just loosing it through the leak. Compression showed one cyclinder loosing 80% and several others 20%+, none were under 10%. Figure it was time to go ahead and bite the bullet.

     John just kind of hums a tune and seems to be in a state of meditation as he works in his one man shop. Here he is checking the valves, one needs replacement. Rest are fine.

I have an SC motor rebuilt as stock 60,000 miles ago by John... new P&C's, oil pump, etc... at the time. The "unfortunate" part is that it runs like a top and feels strong. If I ever want more motor I will most likely either have to tear into a good motor, or switch to a different one.
Currious if you will make any changes while you are in there. Change compression, ignition, induction, management, etc...

I am happy with the stock set up and prefer to not hot rod this car too much. However, I am upgrading the cams during the rebuild to Webcam 20/21 and maybe SSIs down the road. I am anxious to get back behind the wheel, hopefully before the new year. John is going to start putting it back together on Monday. Pretty darn good turn around time, I guess he could do that because he does everything himself in his shop.

Well it has been 1500 miles since the rebuild and the engine is running great. It is much smoother and more settled in than the first couple of hundred miles. Time and money well spent. Thanks John.

JW - GOOD GUY! Glad to see 1500 miles have rolled on your odometer since the engine work and that all is well.
The engine in my little coupe (Butters) that JW freshened is running like a clock including a 1,000 plus mile work related trip. Isn't his shop cool? Got some neat stuff in that shop! Where else would you find Porsche's, vintage american convertibles and a flat head V12 all under one roof? angela
