Cool Quest for Cool, part 2

So, I've started the ball rolling on my cooling solution for my 911. First up, ducted S-type spoiler. I'm switching to a fiberglass front spoiler, and -- since I had to drive to Duarte (and get a seatbelt ticket) -- I picked up a fiberglass hood as well.

An aside: If you're looking for fiberglass or used steel body parts and you're on any kind of a budget, go to Rennspeed Motorsports. Ignore their out-of-date website, and email Peter directly -- rennspeed@4dcomm.com. He's a nice guy whom I've now met face to face. I haven't found better prices anywhere.

Plug aside, I also got a pair of scoops from Racerpartswholesale.com. Click on the thumnail for a bigger version:

Note that there's a lot of extra lip around the scoop to trim. Each scoop will lead to a 3" flexi hose, which will run to a shroud around the cooler.

I plan on cutting the bumper roughly where the fog lamps would mount:

The bumper looks like this:

My neighbor (and tenant) is a surfer/rock video director who does his own fiberglass work on his surf boards (I know this because I've rolled over one of them in the 911). I'm going to get him to coach me on cleaning up the cut-outs and blending the ducts into the bumper before I get it painted.

In any case, that's the plan. Any advice, correction or disagreement will, as always, will only make me stronger...

Now would be a good time to introduce a new product that might solve some heat-related problems. I just got the website up and running. It's called MPC (multi-purpose-cooling). It's basically a portable water misting unit that's designed to drop the air temperature about 15-20 degrees. It's not reinventing the wheel but applying known technology to tackle some cooling jobs.

It's not designed to mask any inherent cooling problems that should be addressed, but many racers are using a similar setup to cool off parts that tend to run too hot, especially when ambient temps. are high. If anybody's interested in taking a look, here's the URL (add'l updates to come):

http://www.seinesystems.com

BTW, I'll have a demo unit with me in Cambria in case someone wants to see how it works.

Sherwood Lee

Jack,
I might be way off here, but wouldnīt it help if you connected the inlets of the heat exchangers to the fan? My guess is that with the exchangers disconnected from the fan they will work somewhat like a thermos around the headers. Once again, I might be way off but perhaps itīs worth a try.
