911 Alarm noise? clicking from dash area, any info?

I have a 1986 911 and it has the a red light in the midle of the dash and the horn under the right front fender for an alarm. The red light does not light up and I found a Alpine remote fob for a alarm in the door pocket.I believe the alarm is disabled. But I have a constant clicking like a flasher or a relay from behind the dash above the radio by the cigarette lighter area.I cannot get at it (radio out, clock out, glove box out).It stops clicking if the hood is open (the light plunger switch when closed activates it). So if the hood is open it will stop clicking, when the hood light is on.I must keep the battery disconnected at this point.Does anyone have any ideas?

Pull the alarm system completely out of the car, would be my advice. I haven't seen one yet that was worth having, or one that was well installed.

Garage
I messed with the alarm system for a while, then tore the whole thing out.

It was tied in with the central locking system and made a clicking sound like you describe when it was trying to lock the doors. The main control box was located behind the trim panel in the trunk, adjacent to the glove box.

Junk it!
