spring plates

Hey , let me run this one past you guys? I traded a guy for some used "sway-away" adj. spring-plates for my 87' 930 car. I got em ,and they are "gold" anodized like I have seen in the magazines , with adj. screw for ride height , etc., however ''someone" has "cut" a large "pattern" in the main plates of both sides?? looks like it was cut out very professionally with maybe a "plasma-cutter" or something along those lines? The patern is kinda cool looking , it has spots not cut out , (many small windows) , not just one large opening , sorry don't have a pic. Why?? never seen spring-plates before that appear as though they had wanted to "lighten " them up , ever so little?? will these be OK to run on street car? or did somone wreck them? thanks.............and if they can't be run , does anyone have any use for them?
