My new dash doesn't fit

The shop is in the final stages of putting my car back together after painting. It will be pretty much ready after the new windshield is installed. This, of course, can't be done until the dash goes in.

I ordered a new dash from Perf. Products, with the speaker cover. The studs in the dash don't line up with the car. The stud to the right of the clock needs a new hole drilled very close to the clock. The shop doesn't like this idea. The information I gathered from a couple phone calls says there is no other way. I was warned that I also might see problems with the fit of the defroster vents and the doors closing.

Has anybody else run into this problem, and what did you do? BTW the Porsche part# is 911 552 031 00.

BTDT...my body guy says this is fairly common. In fact, before the old dash was even removed, he said "you know a lot of times the new dash won't line up exactly right with the old holes so we have to drill a couple new ones."

I don't know why, perhaps it is just due to so much having been hand-crafted on these old cars. Like yours, my dash is the 'correct' factory part with the separate speaker grille. Unfortunately the shop did the install, not me, so I don't have the specific details.

Just brought this subject up again to see if anyone else has any thoughts. I would like more of a consencus before giving the ok to hack the car up. I'm thinking, drill the hole and make it fit. I don't want to be too hasty, but I am anxious to get my car back. It's so close now.

Hello

Well after renewing some 10 dashes I never had to drill new holes. OK they where mostly NOS but no problem. Well hadn´t to put in a new item.

Mounting the unit needs some twisting as the two holes from the top behind the instrument are made for "perfect" fit and will snap in under some help and pressure.


Only holes to drill/punch are in the front beside the vent covers.
